Stubborn Mites.... Please Help!
Hey gang,
A quick update since last time. I have 8 snakes in the same room and only two of them have mites that I have seen. They are also the only two that are consistantly soaking as well. I have now treated all 8 enclosures with PAM on 3 seperate occasions, the last time being last Monday (7 days ago). As of today, I found both snakes still soaking and found a mite or two on each one. WTH?!?! I have done everything correctly, treated the entire enclosure very well and let dry for almost 2 hours each time and had each snake treated with Mite-Off while out of the room. I feel awful because they are always soaking and don't want them to develop other problems from soaking the whole time. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks, Joe

I don't know. Maybe you're not treating heavily enough with the Provent-a-Mite? The only time I've ever had mites in my collection, I followed the instructions on the can and the mites were gone after a single treatment.

the only thing i could suggest is spray down the funiture and floor in your room. i thought pam was supposed to work for 30 days... also are you spraying the substrate with the pam too? if not i would.
good luck, dave

Thanks guys for the posts!
-I am actually over-spraying compared to the suggested amount
-Yes, I am directly spraying the substrate and have actually treated the room a bit as well.
I just don't get it....!

I would remove the water bowls for a bit, and make sure everything is dry. If the snake is in the bowl, and the mite is on the snake, and encounters water every time it tries to wander, it won't come into contact with the treated surface, lol.

What are you using as your substrate right now? If its not paper towels I would try that.

Re: Stubborn Mites.... Please Help!
Thanks guys! My only worry with paper towels is that the substrate keeps the heat pads from being to hot. Any ideas?

You should be using a thermostat anyway.
