    PVC humidity issues..

We have Powerhouse PVC cages (48 x 24 x 12) for our boas. We have to spray it down every hour or the humidity drops to 30%.. does anyone have any tips to help keep the humidity up?? we're using flex watt to heat it.. mind you our room humidity is low. In my rack I don't have a problem at all.. Its just in the PVC cages :\

Odd.. have you tried the bigger water bowl? That worked for.Mr in glass cages. It's kinda off. Usually PVC holds humidit, but you said your room was also low. Have you tried a humidifier nwiee the room itself? That works for my room.

I would say either a bigger water bowl partly on the heat or maybe two bowls one on each side

PVC is plastic and has no effect on humidity nor does glass. Humidity is ventilation heat and water vapour. Bigger bowl different air flow it sounds like your room humidity is very low are warm (forced air??) humid hides or perhaps a humidifier would be the best.

I like to use cypress mulch as a bedding for just that reason. You can wet it down and it'll hold the humidity in there for a good while.

Do you have the model with the vents on sides? If so you could also try covering them a bit.

Interesting, I've never had issues with my PVC cages and humidity but then again I live in Florida where the average humidity level is just past unbearable.

I do however have a humidifier for my cages when it comes around shedding time. The Ultrasonic humidifier is controlled by my Herpstat 4 and is "piped" into my cages via 1"diameter PVC pipe. When I added more cages I found that I needed more pressure in the pipes so I added a computer fan with a dimmer switch to boost the air flow. I would post a picture but that would require tacking apart everything, moving it away from the wall, reassembling, then doing that all again to put it back. PM me if you have any questions about it.

If you are going to cover any of the vent only do the top bit humidity rises. I'd try a lower bowl first however something with a flat bottom the dog bowl maybe insulating too much.

I found that ultrasonic humidifiers dump the temps and they also are a vector for bacteria. I would suggest vaporizers instead but it is just what happened with me my situation is not everybody's.

    Re: PVC humidity issues..

Have you tried switching out your hygrometer? It's possible that the reading is actually what's worng.
