need help deciding on next pet

so for awhile now ive been looking at getting a different kinda pet then my snakes and have looked really heavily at lizards with more recently thinking about spiders and scorpions.

ive looked at different types of geckos and would really like to get some since they're more visible but im mostly worrried about the diet. i havent really found anywhere to buy feeders from and i know id screw up preparing the greens and eveything.

then theres the tarantulas. i want to get one thats able to be handled maybe once every few days or so without too much risk of being bitten or getting a hair flicker. my roommate is also scared of them and threatens the he'll kill it as soon as i look away from it but i doubt he really would. again i cant find feeders around me.

emperor scorpions seem like they're the best bet right now other then that they arent handleable and i still cant find feeders.

oh and ive looked into frogs too but like with the others i cant find feeders.

ive read a bunch of caresheets on all of them but am looking to get some advice from ppl with first hand experience on the best way to house, feed and just general ease of care.

    thnx for any advice.

Any gecko from New Caledonia, such as crested geckos, leachianus, gargoyle geckos, agricolae, or chahoua. All of them can be fed completely on Repashy meal replacment diet. It's a powder that you mix with water, very cheap and easy. You can also feed insects if you decide to, but it's not necessary. I told myself I would never get another lizard/gecko because I hated dealing with feeders (crickets mostly), then I found crested geckos. My addiction has expanded ever since then. New Caledonian geckos are one of the best reptiles IMO, they are so easy and docile. I wouldn't risk getting something that your roommate hates like a spider or scorpion. Wait until you move out, no sense in risking it.

Here are a few of my New Caledonian geckos:

    Leachianus

    Hatchling crested geckos

    Big adult male

    Agricolae

Hopefully that will help you decide!

id heard about the repashy but didnt know that some could survive with nothing else so ill definitely look into them. i really dont see him doing anything about them especially since he wont ever have to see them unless he goes in my room which he never does. he's fine with scorpions but really doesnt like Ts

Re: need help deciding on next pet

Well, if you're striving away from snakes, and said you want a tarantula, I'd recommend that. BUT I'm also not good with lizards or geckos. I doubt he'd do anything to it, and crickets can be ordered online! (Still learning care myself as I plan to get one..) the only thing I'd be worried about is if you're allergic to bee's you could be allergic to tarantula bites. I forget were I read that, but if it's right or wrong, it's still a good thing to throw out!

This is excellent advice! Repashy is so easy. You can order it and lots of other Gecko stuff from Pangea Geckos. And cresties are really personable little guys.

I would also respect your roommate and avoid a spider. Even if he doesn't go in your room and wouldn't really do something to it even though he says he might, I am sure there are things you wouldn't like him to do and he respects that and doesn't do it. You'll have plenty of time to get a T once you move out. That's just my opinion, but having roommates means at least a certain amount of mutual respect. And I think you'll be pleasantly surprised and very happy with a few geckos.
