Red eye croc skink plan and questions

So we have the chance to get a sexed pair of (supposedly) captive born and bred red eye croc skinks... Guy just decided to move on to snakes and give up his other lizard projects. And I must say, I am quite excited to pick up where he left off!

Now of course, considering they are such a commonly imported animal, they will be getting vet checks asap to make sure they are actually cbb, parasite free and healthy!

We have a 35 gallon hex, I know I had said it would be used for frogs earlier, but when we got the chance to get these guys just seem like the perfect fit. It's a little large for a pair from what I've heard, but I don't mind giving them that extra room. From what I've read, they enjoy having climbing space and we will for sure be able to give them plenty of that. They'll have a few inches of substrate as well as a large shallow water area on the warm end to help with humidity. Planning on mostly feeding young dubia roaches and crickets, with a little variety here and there.

One end of the tank is currently sitting at 82-83 degrees and the cool end gets to about 72-73. I put a big bowl of water where I am planning on putting their water area and the humidity is steadily rising. With the lid we are building, I don't think we'll have any humidity issues!


Now I know these guys are still new to the hobby, I just wanted to make sure all of this sounded good. I remember early on people suggested having very deep water areas, while now they suggest large areas but not making them too deep. I also remember people suggesting a lot of climbing room. Just want to make sure that is still the case. They would have a lot of cover up there, we have so many fake plants, LOL.

Basically keeping them warm(but not hot), humid, and with plenty of hiding places.


Is there anything else I'm missing? I want to make sure these guys thrive. They are tooooo cute!

I wouldn't make the water to deep. Maybe an inch or so.
I have like a bridge thing(maybe I'll take a pic) that if needed she can get in and out safely.
But there have been times where I saw my girl just sitting there with her head under the water. (freaked me out)

Yes, I was planning on it being about that deep. Don't want any drowning skinks! Just enough to be able to be IN the water!

Ah I missed my window of time when I could edit my post again. Sorry for the double post!

I would love to see pictures of your set up! Anyone's set up really. Just to get some ideas of enclosures that are indeed working.

Again--people say these guys are climbers. Have you found this to be true? Are they good climbers or are they clumsy like leopard geckos?

Sure I'll take some when I get home.
I need to add more climbing. But the side of my cage I have mesh that I covered. She has climbed up the side of the mesh before.
I'd say they're pretty good at climbing. =o
