Question about ball python egg laying

Hi I have a question about ball python egg laying so this is my first time breeding I bought a male mojave and my mother in law had a female normal she wasn't into breeding but I was I asked her if I could pair my male mojave with her female normal and she said I could and when she layed the eggs I could have them to incubate so we did this and so time went on and she ended out being gravid and layed eggs but now she doesn't want me to take the eggs to incubate now she wants her ball python to lay on the eggs and I was like this is not a good idea cause my mother in law has no idea what she's doing but she insisted and would t give them to me so to make the long story short she ended out killing the eggs and I told her she should have let me incubate them and She was trying to make up stuff why she didn't incubate to make her look like it wasn't bad what she did and so she told me the other day that the first clutch of eggs a female lays don't produce any babies and I was like um I have never heard this so I was curious if this was true cause I have three gravid females and I don't want to get all excited to get a bunch of babies then not get them obviously I would incubate them anyways just to see but I just wasn't sure if this was a true thing let me know what you think thanks

Some young and small girls throw slugs, but so do some older girls as well. Temp and humidity were too low and that is the reason the eggs did not make it

My 1200g female virgin's first clutch this past summer hatched 3 healthy babies (out of 3 eggs).

Sorry I am at work and I was trying to make it quick also I'm used to texting and I do not worry about those things haha yes I know the reason why the eggs died I told bertney were going to she wouldn't listen to me but anyways thank you for that answer I will tell her she's wrong I didn't think that was true she is just mad that she was wrong about the eggs and she doesn't like being wrong but I was angry because she should have given them to me cause I have read about breeding ball pythons for about a year and a half now before I started this I new somewhat of what I was doing she just wanted to be in control and the result of this all those precious babies died

No, never had any of my first-time females throw only infertile eggs. You can tell the difference between fertile eggs and slugs quite easily. Slugs are small, orange, and sometimes more firm. Fertile eggs are large and white, and they absorb water and don't sink in the first few days. Occasionally there will be some eggs that look fertile, but sink after a few days, but these are less common, and I've never heard of an entire clutch going that way.

If humidity is too low, the eggs will sink in, and eventually die. It's hard to keep humidity above 90% when a female is incubating eggs in her cage. They also need to be between 87F and 90F, and temperatures outside of that range can cause death or deformities.

We incubate ball python eggs artificially because hatch rates are better, and I wouldn't recommend anyone new to breeding try to let the female incubate them, particularly if they don't have really good thermostats and humidistats going on the cage.

I also do NOT recommend breeding any female under 1500 grams--it's bad for their health, the eggs are often tiny and the hatchlings are less likely to thrive, and the females don't grow as well after that.
