Are you using one of those circular analog/dial thermometers that you attach to the side of the tank? If so, get rid of it because they dont tell temps very well anyways, get something with a probe.

Also, depending on the severity of the missing scales, a vet visit might not be a bad idea (pics if ur worried). If its mild, then dont worry too much. If its only a few scales, probably not the biggest deal. If it looks red or raw, its a good idea to switch to paper towel or newspaper. Wooden substrate helps infections start. Not sure what the normal at-home treatment is, but probably nothing more than some neosporin without pain reliever(antibiotics). I think it will be similar to treating a scratch or bite from a rodent, just keep it dry and clean until the next shed and it should clear up after he sheds.

    Re: scales missing

for along time i used a digital meat thermometer with a long cord probe I got @ walmart for like 10 bucks... It worked well in my bearded dragon cage.....
I would put neosporin on the spot with the missing scales

^^^this, or they have them at Walmart for pretty much the same price. Just find one that has a probe and does temp and humidity.
