Monster quest Pythons

So I was watchin monster quest on the history channel and someone's Burmese python had broke out of his cage during the night went into their babies room and constricted him to death. Any thoughts on how that could happen?

Sure, the owners were terribly irresponsible and the fault lays 100% with them.

If you will notice - they hadn't fed it in a month. GRANTED, some snakes do go off feed, but that is when THEY want to - not when YOU want them to.

As for how it could happen - inadequately secured tank/enclosure. And a hungry snake.

IMO you should not have a snake or reptile capable of killing your kids, at least until your kids are old enough to truly understand to respect and how to deal with the animal. No one is perfect and even with proper enclosures and everything a phone call or a noise or whatever can be all it takes.

The same thing happened about an hour from me a few years ago. They had a child in the room next to the one containing a big burm, and had the burm in a tub with a towel as the top. Thy were asking for it. I think personally it was the owners irresponsibility that got their child killed in both cases. The poor snake just did what snakes do. :/ And THEY get the bad rap for it.

I also watched the show today. It is my humble opinion that Burmese, Retics, and African Rock pythons should be required to have a microchip. Don't ban the snakes all together.

Notice when they showed the python that constricted the kid how malnourished it was. It was at least an 8-9 foot albino Burm that had the girth of a baseball. Makes me sick. Don't blame the starving snake, blame the stupid owner who clearly had no idea how to care for it. Stupid people ruin everything.

The link above was actually what I was talking about. I read it after I posted. Lol. I board my horse in Sumter county. Tiny place. It was the talk of the town for months. That poor snake was so skinny!

Your right snakes do what snakes do, which is why I don't think you should own a snake capable of easily killing your kids. Stick to boas and BPs, Corns, kings, milks, and the like. Wait till your kids are prob at least 10+ before going with the big constrictors and probably don't go for hots until your kids are out of the house.
