Ups and downs today

Well today had some great pluses and a sucky negative. To begin with today i attempted to switch to frozen thawed. I am happy to say that my two males took like nothing I didnt even have to tease them with it. The down side? My big girl didnt want food. She is at about 1300g and I really am excited to breed her. Bout a month ago she ate a rat the had just given birth. Was pretty big so I gave her a while after, to where I am normally feeding weekly. But since then she has not wanted anything to do with food, live or frozen. I think the big meal triggered another "I dont want to eat session" sucks cuz i was getting ready to pair her up. What do you guys think about her tantrums? Is it the big meal that caused it or could it be something else?

It's generally better and I've noticed that growth happens at a steady rate if you feed smaller meals more frequently. This is true especially if you are preparing to breed. They have slow metabolisms so too large of a meal has the possibility of actually rotting in their gut before if can be broken down into useful energy. Something like a 100 gram rat every 5 days for breeder females isn't a bad way to go. Maybe even smaller at 80 grams.

I don't know if it could have caused her not to eat, I wouldn't think it would take a month or more for her to feel hungry again. 1,300 grams isn't a terrible weight to breed. I might give her a little longer to see if she gains weight then start breeding her. You don't want her to quit eating this early in the season since she doesn't have a lot of wiggle room.

Ya I was gonna pair her up because shes been eating regularly so I knew she'd grow. I normally don't feed her huge rats, its all my friend had since he was moving and getting rid of the rats. Im just hopin she will get hungry again soon haha.
