Clips for screen covers on glass tanks

Well I had my first experience with my BP escaping. The poor guy was stuck between the back of the tank and the wall
I had stopped using the clips early on because he showed no interest in leaving and I thought because it is only around 65 in the house that he would stay put for the winter. Duh!
Anyway the clips I bought are a pain and I don't like them, but I have not seen any other kind.
Anyone out there weighing down their cover and how much weight would be enough to discourage a 4' snake (sorry I don't know what he weighs). Any other ideas would be appreciated. I don't want this to happen again.

You can always try wrapping a luggage strap around each end of the tank. That way they will still hold the screen down and not obstruct the view. And they will give the tank a cleaner look, as opposed to having a bunch of stuff stacked on top. Another potential problem with weighing the top down, is the greater chance of accidentally stretching or tearing the screen. You can find the straps in the luggage section at Wal-Mart or Target. They are at least worth a look...

I got these straps similar to luggage straps they are for bundling up wood or something. $5.00 at WalMart in the aisle where they have bungee cords and stuff. Come 2 to a pack, 12 feet long but I just snip off the excess. Seems to work really well. If you go this route, one word of advice, don't undo the strap, just loosen it. Giant pain to get it back through the buckle after you cut the ends off.

I had about 5-7 pounds on top of mine. I had a locking screen top, but it didnt fit right so only one end locked, and the other end wouldn't. My 5 month old bp pushed his way out of his tank one night and found him in the bathroom a day later. I learned that they are a lot stronger than I gave them credit for. I think VooDooDoc's looks pretty good IMO. I went to a reptile expo three days later and got one that the top slides into a rail from the side with two pins that lock it in place and i love it so far. Its escape proof "I think".

My tanks have built in locks now, but I used to use luggage straps on my non-locking lid like others have mentioned. No escapes so far!

Thanks so much for the ideas.
I didn't have time to go out yesterday and buy anything though. I wanted something for last night and in looking desperately around the house I found some velcro. It is sticky on one side and velcro on the other. I didn't have enough to do 4 sides but I am going to pick up some more.
I am also going to a reptile show this weekend and I will see what one of those locking tops goes for but $ is tight right now.
