    hybrids....

What are your thoughts. I saw some carpalls (carpet/ball) online and have been pondering whipping some up eventually.

I personally don't have a problem with hybrids. Some of them are pretty interesting looking, and as long as strict parenting records are kept there isn't an issue of confusing them with one species or another, plan to get one myself someday as a pet. However, they're generally frowned upon in the community, and as far as I know it's pretty challenging to get fertile eggs, interest between the two snakes, etc. Not exactly "whipping some up," lol. Good luck though! I think there are a few members here with much more thorough information

I personally love hybrids. Burm x ball, blood x ball, carpet x ball, retic x burm, retic x ball, carpet x condro. I think they are all awesome. I wouldn't mind dappling in some myself, but producing any of the hybrids takes years. Sometimes you'll get a lock, but won't produce eggs. Or you'll produce eggs that are slugs, or only a couple of hatchlings.

Burmballs, bateaters and blood x ball are my favorite hybrid.

I don't have a problem with hybrids as long as it is done responsibly. I'd love to have a carpondro!

Unfortunately there are people who, regardless of whether it is done responsibly or not, will complain that it isn't natural. Some extreme "purists" will even complain about mixing species that have been known to hybridize in the wild or mixing subspecies (ie jungle x IJ carpet, etc). Be prepared to take a lot of flack.

there is a healthy amount of opinions on the matter. if you'd like to see where the loyalties and opinions regarding hybrids in general lie in this particular forum, I'd suggest searching for a recent thread posted by coolio tiffany about blood balls. while she is undoubtedly a responsible and educated young woman that would not obfuscate or falsify any breeding information when it comes to her potential customers, that's not always the case. independent of the proposed hybrid, her post regarding a blood x ball pairing elicited more than a few casual opinions.

like valentine pirate stated, I have very few personal issues with most hybrids, as long as they're honestly represented. however that tends not to be the case in many dealings. additionally, you run the risk of muddying the genetic
waters when it comes to line-bred animals. more than a few casual opinions there as well.

either way, I hope you realize you've hit on a few hot-button topics in a very short time here. I'd hazard to guess that you're not looking to alienate people, so try to keep an open mind if anyone responds to this thread in a negative manner.

    Re: hybrids....

yes, if this ever comes to life I'd most definatley be very selective of who got the offspring. I think "carpondros" are quite possibly the most amazing hybrid I've ever seen. I like the carpalls though. Would be cool if I could work a morph in it somewhere, however, i don't know if that's even realistic.
