    Mistakes we've all made...

When you first started collecting snakes, what were some of the mistakes that you made?
I think my worst mistake was not thoroughly researching the species and having my tank set up before I got Jackson. There was no way I could have been prepared for every little detail without experience, but I could have been more prepared than I was.
I also bought in to a lot of crap that the pet stores told me about BPs, and I had a lot of issues at first.
Still learning... but Jackson seems to be healthy, and I love the little guy and def don't regret getting him- I'm just sorry he had to put up with my un-preparedness!

Not finding this website before purchasing my bp, also buying him from a pet store. General unpreparedness.

Yeah, I got poor quality everything! And it's not even like it's cheap poor quality, they can really make a buck on us unsuspecting new pet owners... It seems that the quality stuff typically isnt too much more (sometimes less!) and totally worth every penny extra, you just gotta know where to look. ALL (I mean every. single. dang) pet store in my area carries ZooMed exclusively. What the heck?

I made the mistake a lot of owners do, poor set up. And the lights... not.only have I wasted maybe 200 on lights and crappy heaters not.to mention the fixtures they go in, it has made my set ups worse. But I copied what I was taught. So now its the move into racks! (Seeing as how I have 5 snakes and Want more... can't stop with 1!) But I also made my worse mistake ever......

I attempted to feed our Cinnamon a rat, she refused like she does a lot. Well I tries to feed our almost 6 foot Burmese without washing my hands... God it sucked... he bit and sunk his teeth into me and held on for ten minutes. I've had a ball at a pet store do this but it was nothing compared to the Burmese. All in all. Always wash you hands. or you'll most likely have a scar of your little buddies mouth. LolLol

thinking a snake spilling its water bowl everyday was no big deal, keeps the humidity up right? I would fill it up every morning, he never be dehydrated, no problems. couple weeks later, scale rot. His belly is scared up a little now, but doing great besides that.
