Whistling....
Hey guys... I just took Sally out for her normal socialization. I heard her whistling. She only did it a couple times... not sure how bad of a sign that is. I know whistling can be a sign of RI. Is it a consistent whistle that's a sign or just once in awhile? Is there anything else I should be looking for? Help, please.

Is she near shed? Mine gets a nose whistle when the skin around his nose starts to loosen up and goes away right after he sheds.

I do not think so... I mean she was in shed when I got her that was like... three weeks ago. But she does have a lot of scarring, they shed more often when trying to repair scales, right?

Sometimes they will make a whistling sound when they are stressed (being handled)..... If you don't see mucus/saliva around the mouth and don't hear any clicking popping noises than I would bet your fine but it wouldn't be a bad idea to keep a close eye/ear on her. Hows the humidity and temp in her enclosure?

The humidity and temps are both good. Ambient in our house doesn't drop below 78. She has a 90 hot spot, humidity is hanging good. It isn't too wet in there. She only whistled twice and both times were right after I picked her up. I didn't hear anything more during the 30 mins or so that I had her out. She curled up around my arm and pretty much stayed relaxed. Maybe it was just stress? i didn't see any mucas or saliva at all around her nose or mouth.

Sounds like she was just irked at being woken up and hissed. Mine do the same. Generally speaking, I don't count whistling as a symptom of an RI unless accompanied by mucous because it can be caused by so many other things (sheds, vocalization, etc).

Pretty sure it wasn't a hiss lol. The pitch wasn't right to be a hiss. It was a whistle. Unless they whistle when irritated lol. She didn't seem like she cared much to be picked up, calmed right down. Though she did act originally like she was expecting food. So maybe it was a "why didn't you bring me a rat" whistle? lol

Re: Whistling....
I actually heard mine do the same thing for the first time today, it definetly didnt sound like a hiss, as others have stated im assuming its stress/shed related (my girl just got out of the blue phase) and i also fed her today, but had to stick my hand in the enclosure to get the water bowl out after. (first time sticking my hand in on feed day as well) so im thinking stress, does your BP have any left over shed on her face by chance?
