    What is quality?

By what standards do you all judge the quality of a specific morph? I mean, isn't beauty in the eye of the beholder? I have seen so many posts that say, "make sure it's a quality specimen of this particular morph." By what, who's standards are these comments made?

It is an individual thing for the collector, but a general consensus for the breeder. As a collector what you find to be exceptional is up to you. As a breeder if you used that theory and only a small group of collectors or other breeders were in agreement the animals you produce would only make a small group go Wow. With that said, I see very few people that have called any reptile ugly on any reptile forum and justly so as we all try to be polite to fellow collectors and breeders or anyone else in the hobby for that matter.

    Re: What is quality?

well for example look at pastels because that is the easiest to definitively judge. A high qulity pastel should be bright yellow with a lot of blushing, to some people the color is more important others the blushing, I like both, babies should be yellow not orange, yellow babies will be better looking as adults and brown out less than orange babies.... A low quality animal is browned out, babies will be verry low color, or orange, and have little blushing......

To me, when I decide I want to buy a particular morph, I look at as many pictures of that morph as I can find.

I pick out what makes each snake different, and I take note of what about any particular snake I like. Once I have seen 40 or 50 pictures of any particular morph, I have a good idea of what I want one to look like if I buy it. I take my favorite traits from the pictures I have seen, and decide what I want the snake I plan to buy to look like.

For example, when I went shopping for a cinnamon, I spent a week looking a different pictures of cinnamon's. I picked out all my favorite traits in the pictures, and I also noticed what other people called high quality. I had a clear picture in my mind of what I wanted mine to look like. I ended up with a high brown, reduced pattern, blush backed female that to me is a once-in-a-lifetime animal. I don't think many would disagree with me.

Bottom line is, look at as many pictures of a morph as you can find, it won't take you long to develop an eye for each morph.
