Kenyan Sand Boa question
To all the people on here who keep them what is your method of heating? I have read loads of care sheets where it suggests UTHs but then also on searches have read a lot of people saying they prefer over head heating due to the KSB burrowing......
We picked up a 55 gallon oak tank stand with 33 gallon long tank for $20 (same footprint as 55 gallon) so am thinking of dividing it for two juvenile KSBs

Not that he will mind too much, but a ksb will never need a 55gal maybe a female will need a 20gal long, but in most cases a 10 gal will do for a long time. Splitting your 33 long would be a great idea!
Heating, I have an uth and keep the temps 105-110 on the glass with a 1/2" or so of sand and a piece of plexi resting on the sand he likes to hide under. There is nothing on the cool side. I prefer sand and could be a big debate but I keep it clean!

Thanks I was thinking if an UTH was the way to go to move the central wooden brace on the stand and put a central heat pad to cover both sides at once so the cooler side is at each end plus once divided it would give each snake 24" x 13' x 12 "... The tank has two big drilled holes in the back where the previous owner was going to plumb in filters for fish... so I was thinking of fitting vents over each hole with silicon... but for $20 I wasnt gonna complain

I have my guy in a 30 gallon with an UTH. Another thing to think about is that a heat lamp is also going to make your room a bit warmer too and your KSB will spend most of his time under the bedding, not on top. I have a rheostat (sp?) that cycles from around 90 - 100 and my guy has just had a great shed and is a fabulous eater.
