    UTH running low

I have a zoomed UTH, I think it's a small if I remember correctly. it's been running really well the past couple months, but today I went and did a good cleaning and now it's not running at all or very minimally. My thermostat and thermometer both say it's staying around 84.5 and it hasn't gotten over 86.8 this past hour. Of course I lost my receipt and when I called the pet store I got it at they said they couldn't do anything without a receipt. Did I just get a dud or is this normal for them to only work a couple of months?

I'll be leaving in the next hour to go get another, my poor baby is stressed I think from the cold.

Have you tried adjusting the thermostat? If it's a dial, there's a chance it just got bumped and turned down by accident.

    Re: UTH running low

I have a hydrofarm thermostat. I even tried unplugging the uTH and plugging it into the wall and it still didn't get warm after 20 mins. I think the UTH is just dead. Right now it says 83.4 and it hasn't moved in 10 mins. I guess I'll just have to save my receipt this time. Apparently their warrenty is good for one year. Oh well. Serves me right for misplacing the receipt.

This is kinda sorta dishonest but its worked before when ive ran into atuff like that. Is the uth is good condition? Go to the store and buy the same one.. And return the defective one. As long as its within ur warranty period its a loop hole.. But a dishonest one.

Did you try to plug the UTH directly in the outlet and see if it is heating? It will at least tell you if the hydrofarm has a dud outlet.

I have a spare hydrofarm if you need it I am going past tomorrow PM me if that is the case.

if your room has cooled down a bit its going to cause some issues with the temps swinging. the cheapo thermostats dont do very well when the rooms cool off. they really only maintain a stable temp when the entire room is 1 stable temp. but like others said plug the UTH into the wall and see if it gets hot.
A room full of empty racks and thermostats that have been unplugged.

    Re: UTH running low

It was the uth. I tried plugging it into 6 different outlets.
Thanks kitedemon, but I went to the pets unlimited in Bayer's lake lastnight and just bought another one. But I appreciate the thought.
    It's working great now

Oh and I so couldn't be that dishonest. I'm weak, and the guilt would stay with me. Plus, I'm like the worst Liar EVER!

    Thanks everyone.

Any suggestions for a better quality or alternative to uth??

    No problem Shalene,

I don't like the exo terra ones that PU sells personally I prefer the zoo med ones. Unfortunately they are not easily available locally I think NL jungle pets might have a few but generally speaking it is a order from elsewhere. I usually order from pets and ponds they have a good selection have fast shipping and no unexpected charges... and good pricing. I have ordered from else where on occasion and once or twice got caught with brokerage and duty.

Awesome. Thanks so much. I'll look into that. Yesterday kinda sucked. Sooo cold out and both the uth and my heat lamp died.

If you are placing an order sometime you might give some thought to a lengh of heat cable. It is a good back up heat as it can be easily wrapped around the enclosure for a quick fix.
