    Introduction post!

I'm sorry to be resurrecting some of the older posts! Who knew I'd find so many hog lovers on a BP forum?

My name is Theresa and I have a reddish colored hog I bought last September. He lives in a 5 gallon KK, he's still pretty small. The last time I measured him he was just over 12". He's eating large pinkies once a week. Should I be feeding him more often? I don't want a fat snake, but I don't want to be starving the little bugger either!

I was gonna attach a picture, but I can't post pictures yet. Do you have to be on the forum a certain amount of time? (But I snuck a pic of him as my avatar!)

I'd definitely be feeding him more. My hatchlings typically get a pinky every few days.

I only have large pinkies, so I'll feed him every 5 days and see where that gets us. I'm headed to the reptile show next weekend. I'll see how big the fuzzies are!

Pardon the silly manicure, I was babysitting last night!

LOL @ the manicure... my 4 year-old niece is currently into face-painting, so my face looked like your nails the last time I babysat. All I can say is, at least the paints are washable.

Your little hog is a cutie-pie! My girl was eating fuzzies from the time I got her, and she was about the same size... FYI they grow FAST and eat like pigs, or at least mine does. It's amazing how quickly she progressed from fuzzies to hoppers to adults, and now (at around 20 months old) she could easily take 2 large adults per feeding. So don't be scared to push him a bit, as they can handle more than you might think. Have fun, they're great snakes!!

P.S. Keep in mind I have a female, so it's possible the males top out at hopper mice... just thought of that.

    Welcome

Cute hog! IMO hogs do better with smaller meals more frequently then a larger meal less often. I feed ours every 3 days or so on average, but I feed them smaller meals.
