need an ID
I will be able to post a picture in a couple hours once I'm home (or can email to anybody interested), but I have what is being called a red rump tarantula. Are there red rumps that are just brown all over? It has a different body structure from rosehairs, and does not seem as bulbous at the joints like a goliath... but I thought the red rumps were at least dark black? This thing isn't even remotely dark brown, and it does have more prominent, ever so slightly more orangey-brown hairs on it's abdomen. Unless they are sexually dimorphic or change colors from juveniles to adults, it looks nothing like any picture I've seen of a red rump.
All help appreciated!

Re: need an ID
Brachypelma is the Mexican red rump.

Yours might be brown because it needs to molt but I can't guarantee that is the case. I will check the pics out when you post them

Here are the photos - 2nd is on barely damp eco earth/coconut husk shavings, for color reference.

That is definitely not a Brachypelma vagans, which is the only "red rump" I know of. I second posting it on Arachnoboards, someone there will for sure know what it is.
1.0 Normal - Maynard
1.0 POG - Victor
0.1 YB - Diana
0.1 Pastel Boa - Astrid
1.0 Salmon Boa -
1.1 Leopard Geckos

The only thing that it has that is similar are the longer hairs on the abdomen, but even they are only slightly orange.
I will go post on arachnoboards =) I didn't specify scientific name, solely bc it came in a Petco shipment... and petco does not distinguish between subspecies or locality. It's tag from california zoological just says "red rump". I have only ever heard of 'mexican red rump' but I wouldn't be shocked if cal zoo had their own naming system. This means sometimes things slip in under a different name, and I've noticed it happen most frequently with the boas. Just want to make sure I know what the heck things are before they're sold. I'm also on the search for a new tarantula... except I'll probably get mine as a sling fromt he expo coming up =)
I do appreciate the efforts, and I'll post back here with whatever they say on arachnoboards!

Well posting on arachnoboards isn't helping much. It's already turned into a pissing match. I don't see the point really. Just hoping somebody can ID this critter.

I have seen that. Not surprised sadly. Guess you can rule out H. gigas too

Lol yep, absolutely without doubt, not an H. gigas! Just in case the giant patch of missing hair on the abdomen was too subtle, we now know that the color, leg structure, and carapace are absolutely nothing at all similar to H. gigas
"Panama Red Rump" or ricopelma rubronitens is now on the table. Not too many pictures to compare to unfortunately.
Edit: I'm hoping this spider stays at petco long enough to molt, maybe show some different coloration. We'll see. Following a drug test and background check, I'm no longer subjected to corporate views of acceptable animal care, and I get a much better paying job instead.
