    Breeding males....age?

I found a good deal on a 2007 proven breeder orange ghost male which is on my list to get. I won't be able to breed for another three years though which would make the snake 7 years old. Will he still be good for breeding then or should I just get a 2011?

He should still be good to breed for about another 23+ years...

    They breed their entire lives.

If he is proven then you are good to go. Some are still trying to figure it out their first go round

All of my male balls are younger, but I don't see a problem. He should have many years left. I've got a male corn who is at least 8 years old and he is a stud! He makes James Bond look like a punk when it comes to the ladies.

    Angry Re: Breeding males....age?

Keep in mind that just cause an animal gets to the magic weight for breeding doesnt always mean they are sexually mature. I dont brred my girls till they are at least 3 years old and 1600 grams. My males i like them at least 800 grams and 2 years old. Young males tend to take a little work to get them going. With my first time males i tend to put a few young males together when they are cooling cause it helps stimulate them and then ill put the individual male with their female. When i used to breed hots this was a trick that worked very well with rattlers and cobras. I would get the proven male if i were you and youll be good. I wouldnt pound him with food and get him super huge. Ive found if the male is bigger then the female it tends to not go well but i guess thats a preferance thing. Thats just my experience

Well considering I won't be able to breed for a few years I have no real need to use him at the moment. He will just be part of the collection.
