    Thermostat

Right now I have all my UTH on dimmers. IT has worked so far, but this weekend I am building a rack with flexwatt and going to upgrade to a thermostat. What thermostat is the best in your opinion. Ive seen a couple different ones and they all seem pretty close in comparison.

Herpstat is my favorite, however after going without POWER the past two days, I found out the hard way that Herpstats don't work on a generator or AC adaptor! It's still my favorite, however my Johnsons and my Hydrofarms held up swimmingly.

They are all close they might be broken down to two groups on/off ones and proportional ones.

on off types do not have the accuracy on the probe as proportional ones do which may or may not matter. Depending on the set up. On offs IMO work well in semi stable temps with indirect heat like that found in a rack. Proportional t-stats are a bit more flexible than on offs. both will work fine in a rack my feeling is that I want to support development of equipment that is designed for the job I am trying to do. I like to buy proportional units that are build to control reptile temps, not industrial appliances.

    Re: Thermostat

Proportional thermostats like herpstats and helixes are the nicest, but on/off t'stats (Johnsons, Ranco, Hydrofarm, VE's, etc) do the job just fine and don't cost quite as much. I personally use Johnsons and Hydrofarms. Thus far I haven't had any issues with the Hydrofarms, but they're rather cheap, and I wouldn't trust them to run with anything potentially hotter than a standard heat mat. I use Johnsons to control all my cages with flexwatt.

Thank you for all of your responses! I was looking at the vivarium or however you spell it and am now sold on the herpstat. Its only 30 more dollars but sounds worth it!
