Update on my rescue

Hello again, well the rescue had its very first official vet visit today. Of course the stool sample came out clear on its check, but the vet wants to do another one. There was a blood test ran and it came back clear.

There were some places on it that I was worried about, some bumps and there are some scrapes on its head. The vet said looks like mostly scares but there was no infections.

And (I have been trained to pop snakes for sexing) since I wasn't able to to pop this one for sexing the vet probed and it is a male so HE got a name today

I like the name! He is too cute. I'm happy to hear that he now has a caring family. The vet told me that the last BP she had in her office was used as an ashtray It is awful that people get pets without intentions of giving them the best care that they are able...

I agree with you, people get ball pythons and think because they are a reptile they can be just pushed aside or the pet store will tell them how to care for them and the pet store the get them from is like petco or petsmart and they will give them a little pamplet on very basic care but doesn't explain there eating habits, when to raise or lower their humidity, so therefore they view the pet as another dog which is simple to take care of and they don't understand how much that animal is suffering

I had a friend that bought a ball python, one petco told them it was a Boa, and his Dad who had seen my ball pythons even asked me "Mines a Boa right?" I was like, um no. He didn't have a proper heat source no hides and actually there was a ceremic tree in the tank, but the bottom was taped off because he had looked in there one day and and didn't see the snake. He looked for it for like 3 days and gave up and went to take the stuff out of it. and found the snake up inside the tree. I told him the snake needed a hide if not two, one on the Warm side and one on the cool side. He had a cave hid sitting on top the screen for tank. the snake had a whole bunch of stuck on shed and was way under wait I mean it was so skinny you can see light shining through, turns out he was feeding a Pinkie mouse every three weeks like the guy at petco said. Luckily my friends dad was just miss informed and I was able to educate him. I brought over some hopper mice and the snake ate, I put the snake in a seperate tank with some water to get read of stuck on shed and eye caps. and set his tank up properly giving up one of my UTH that was in my car at the time. the snake has since then took a turn for the best and as big as my baby with bright wonderful colors and eating small rats. And each and every shed has come off completely. But he thought it was just one of those animals you can get and just put inside a glass box and feed everyonce in awhile he didn't know they needed the humidity or the hides. he thought it was going to be something like taking care of fish...

To be honest, I didn't know what kind of care it took to be a BP owner, either. I got the majority of my info from the pet store and then had him home for a couple days and went "Wait a minute... HEY! What do I do with this little guy?! They didn't tell me about this!" I'm learning alot and I just love Jackson! I do wish I had been better informed before i got him (I still would have) so that I could have been better prepared. He seems to be doing really well and has not refused a meal yet- not a live one anyway.
When I took him to the vet to get checked out, my best friend said "Why? He's just a snake!"
I gave her my best "just because he's not furry doesn't mean he's less important" speech. People do seem to think that reptiles are stupidly simple to care for- feed em and forget em kinda pets...
