    UTH Question

Hey guys as I am starting the project of building my custom enclosre with my son so we are trying to figure out what to use for the bottom. I plan on using flextape for my UTH on a t-stat and was wondering if Plexi would hold up to that type of heater. Or should I use glass as the bottom just trying to figure it out and dont want to learn from a mistake that could injure our snake.
Thanks in advance for all the great advice

You're not going any higher then 94 degrees so plexi should be fine.

Most plexi glass will stand to temps of 300F+ and flexwatt even uncontrolled will never reach above 150f

Yea I use cardboard covered with a strip of foil tape and haven't had any problems.

the issue with plexy is it tends to distort somewhat. I'd look at PVC sheets it is about the same price easy to clean and is a more stable and impact proof. Like plexy it heats well and efficiently. Unlike expanded PVC (PVCx) which is harder to heat through.

You mean for the top of a tank don't you? I think you missed the OP asking about the bottom of a custom one... I hope.

Well, I was refering to the flexwatt I have under my tubs..I placed strips of foil tape on the cardboard to make a patch the same width as the flexwatt to reflect the heat back upwards. Then I placed the flexwatt on top of that and taped the the edges of the flexwatt down to the cardboard piece. The reason I use the cardboard is because where I have my tubs, I didn't want to use tape on the painted surface of the "shelf" because it doesn't stick really well and if I was to move it, it takes the paint with it.
