    Ever seen anything like this?

This very strange thing happened to this little hatchling mojaves scales. Sometime in the past day some patches of his scales seem to have lost their pigment and look a little pinched.

He is in a Freedom Breeder split tub on Eco-carpet (which gets changed weekly) ambient temperature in the room is the low 80s, ambient humidity is at 60% 5 days a week and goes up to around 70% on Monday/Tuesday. He has a basking spot of 88-90 degrees.

I have kept hundreds of BPs in these set-ups and never had a single health issue. The top is powder coated screen. I checked and there are no spots that could injure a snake. It looks kind of like a burn, but his belly is 100% clean and there is nothing for him to burn himself on.

He had a live crawler mouse in with him recently, it didnt quite have it's eyes open. I have seen snakes that got eaten by mouse/rat but I haven't heard of a mouse sucking the pigment out of a snakes scales...that just seems silly.

I'm baffled. Has anyone else seen anything like this?

    Thab
    Thanks.

I don't think anyone knows how or why that happens but it does occassionally. You are the second member this weekend to have a snake do that. Sometimes the change can be gradual and sometimes it happens during one shed. Usually the color comes back after a few sheds. Here is an old thread on the subject. Hope it helps.
