    Herpstat ND turned off.

Hi all. I walked over to check on my snakes like I always do..and as I got closer, I realized that the backlight on my Herpstat ND was off. I take a closer look, and make sure all the connections are plugged in, and they are. So I unplugged it from the wall, and plugged it back in, and it's back on. The temp dropped all the way to 75 on the heat tape, so it had been off for quite some time, to reach ambient temperature. Not cool

Has anyone had this happen before? I have no clue what could have caused it. I have had it for 3 years without a single problem. Any clues? The socket next to it has my incubator plugged in, and it was still up and running, so it shouldn't have anything to do with a fuse.

Could of been a power surge/failure on it and it turned off and not back on.

House could or had a power flicker. Just keep eye on it and if it happens again, might want to send it back for repair.

The ND's have resettable fuses. If they are overloaded then they will trip and you have to unplug them (usually for a 5 minutes or so) and plug them back up. If you plug them back in too soon it doesn't give the fuses enough time to cool and they may not hold full current which is why I suggest leavign them unplugged for about 5. Since the fuses are heat sensitive its a good idea to mount it where it can get airflow and let the vents in the back of the unit breathe. Keep an eye on it and if you see it trip again then its possible a surge weakened the fuses and they would need to be replaced. If that happens shoot me an email directly through our website and we'll take care of it for you. Hopefully it's just a one time issue.

In the future, just e-mail Dion. It's better to these questions answered directly from the manufacturer.

He's not one of these guys who doesn't get back to you. He's always responded to e-mails and he responds quickly. I can think of no other vendor in this hobby who is as good with the customer service thing as Dion.

Skip has this one right on. I only wish every supplier was as fast at responding as Dion is!

Thanks yall. When I send emails to manufacturers and they disappear its upsetting to say the least. I wouldn't take the time write the email unless it was important. My time is valuable just like yours is and it deserves a timely response.

I don't just have a cozy office and kick my feet up. I bounce back and forth from order entry, soldering boards, running the cnc machines, to final product assembly right next to the few dedicated employees/friends that I have and still manage to answer every email that comes in personally. Happy to help.

Thanks for the reply! I have not had any problems since or any other time, for that matter. If I ever do, I'll be sure to email you through the site. The power in the area has been getting worked on for about a month now, when it was knocked out during a really bad storm, so I wouldn't be surprised if there was either a surge or cut-out.

I love your products, and will be ordering a third t-stat sometime this season since the one for my incubator is moving over to my hatchling rack!
