    Need a little help sexing

    Hey guys,
Yesterday I picked up an order of 30 weaned feeder rats. Doing a once over of each rat before I moved them into the feeder enclosure I saw this little gem:

I love the color but my camera couldn't really capture it. It's almost silver.

(Sorry, I was trying to not sure the poop shot, but it was the only one that came out in focus ><)

I'm having trouble figuring out if this is a male or female. So I'm asking the more experienced rat keepers, what sex is this rat?

Sweet! Thanks for the good news guys. I was hoping she was a female. She has officially been moved from the feeding division to the breeding division

That's what I was thinking, either a champagne or silver fawn. It's a beautiful shade of silver, but I'm not sure if they eyes are light enough to be pink.

I'm guessing the pattern would be considered a broken hood?

And one more question, what type of genetic trait does the color fall under? Would ie Co-dom or recessive? Reason I ask is the only male stud I have is a Black Hooded. Would the babies be a mix of black and champagne or all black?

Pretty much, or a mismarked hooded

The color is black that is diluted to champagne with the pink eye recessive trait. Yes those are pink eyes, not red or ruby

If your male carries pink eye or red eye traits and they match up in the pairing then you would make more champagnes and black or possibly beige if red eye recessives match up.
Beige is a black rat diluted with the red eye recessive gene.
If you throw all black rats then your kits will be pink eye recessive carriers, hets as we call them in snake lingo.

Awesome info, thank you. I guess only time will tell if my current male breeder has the recessive pink/red eye trait.
