A Cloud Came With My Silver Lining

It appears that Chloe has an RI. After getting home from work, I was going to weigh her to see if she lost any significant weight. Well, when I picked her up, there was liquid on her chin. I thought it was just left over water from taking a drink. My wife said she was at the water bowl drinking off and on. Well I noticed that liquid was more viscous than water. Like I pull my finger away and a string of it comes with it. Kinda like runny snot. It's completely clear. I also noticed her throat (I guess you could call it that) was swollen. She was very much not wanting us to touch her head which was unusual for her.

She was not like that when I found her or when I came home at lunch to check on her.

So I've called a local vet who sees snakes and we are taking her in tomorrow morning to have her looked at.

I have moved her and her tank out of the animal room and into the living room. I've read many times on these forums that an RI can spread so I am taking what ever precautions I can. Including washing my hands after handling her.

Let me know if there is anything else I can do. The hot side is up around the mid-90's. She's choosing to sit midway in the tank right now that's about 85-88.

Wish us luck. I am sure things will turn out ok. I know we did not just get her back only to lose her to sickness. I have faith in that.

Keep her warm side at about 94*, she'll be ok after a vet visit and some antibiotics.
Has she eaten for you yet?

Well since she's going to the vet tomorrow, hold off til tomorrow night, if she'll take it. I'm sure she's probably a hungry girl.

If you catch it early, an RI is very treatable.

I had a rescue with the worst RI, I mean you wondered how that poor snake was still alive bad RI. It took two rounds of antibiotics, but she got well and now she eats like a hog.

Wife just called. It was a quick vet visit. As suspected it is an RI but the doc assured her she'd be fine. He gave Chloe a shot of Baytril and gave Chanin 10 pre-set syringes to be given every 2 days until the supply runs out.

So here's to a full recovery.
