As much as it sucks, the value is a huge difference. Working in a police station I get calls all the time of little things getting taken off the yard...not the house, the yard. Unfortunately for things like mailboxes, yard ornaments, plants, etc I generally just log it into the computer so we have it on file, then provide something called "extra patrols" for the night shift, meaning and officer will drive around the area a few times throughout the night and stop anyone suspicious. There is a huge difference between someone coming into your yard and taking something that was not secured and breaking into your house and taking something. Trespassing is only trespassing if it is posted. I suggest posting a no trespassing sign in your yard somewhere, that way if anyone does try this again they can add on a trespassing charge. Also, in MA anything over $250 is a felony, anything below that is just a misdemeanor. There are quite a few things that go into the law and it sucks. As far as taking so long to respond, that sucks too but I have had to delay responses to lower priority calls because of higher priority calls going on at the same time. Depending on how large your dept is that may have been the case. We have to prioritize unfortunately this is not a first come first serve thing. I definitely would have called back by 3:30 though, and I personally call people back and tell them about a delayed response if I am going to delay dispatching, and even give them the option of coming into the station and filing the report with the desk officer. But, not all departments are the same. It's too bad your rats were stolen, I'd definitely check the security of your house and adjust as needed. Deadbolts are very hard to get through, and buy this sign!

Anyways, sorry for rambling, I know it's easy for people to go off on how things aren't fair and a crime is a crime, but that's just not the case. I hope it doesn't happen again!!

I agree with what everyone said. I would watch out for cragislist ads in your area trying to move your cousins snakes and your rats...

I NEVER let anyone in to my house to see my collection. I also NEVER let anyone come to my house to pick up a purchase. I'll meet them somewhere. Some people don't want to put in the work it takes and just steal to get to they want.

Put up signs, install cameras and maybe even a security system.

Not sure if it was mentioned or not but guns are a big item to steal too. That could just add more incentive.

Maybe he stole the rats to feed the stolen snakes. >_>

Security cameras--worth every penny. Those yard lights that are motion-activated are also helpful.

What i would do, is from now on keep everything in your house and lock all doors and windows. Not just because it will be harder to steal, but because it will change the charge. if those rats were taken out of your house it would be break and enter, instead of trespassing or theft.

    either way, good luck

my cousin snakes were stolen last december and have been sold already. my cousin took a few pics. and as you know people when they get a new one they show it off well i saw a person who had one of his snakes in fuana. and then i talked to someone that knew this guy but hates him now too. but they told me people she know bought a coupple of snake from him and when she showed me and my cousin the pics he compared them to his pics and they are the same. and i know he got rid of them already.

I'd be alerted to a cricket farting in my house thanks to my dog and I'd take over from there. I'm sorry to hear they blew you off but sometimes the best route is taking care of your own and making sure that you don't tell people about what you have in the first place. You know they are coming for you snakes from the sounds of it. I'd be proactive and figure something out so you don't have to post about how they stole those. Sucks to hear about, good luck! FYI Simple... In the state of Washington is IS NOT legal to use deadly force to protect property. You can use it to protect life just not property.

I ran into this awhile ago while I was standing in my doorway (.40 Glock in hand) watching a guy smash out my car window while I was on the phone with the cops.

While the end result was gratifying (I watched the cop chase the guy down the street, then taze him in the neck) I still will not be reimbursed for my car being jacked up. He broke out a window broke both door handles and bent my drivers door. He plead guilty and got 22 months because he had a huge knife and a bb gun tucked in his pants. They said payment could come after he got out and got a job. Yeah so 3 years from now I might see some money. (SHOULD HAVE STARTED A FIGHT AND SHOT HIM, THAT WAY IT WOULD HAVE BEEN MY WORD AGAINST WELL.. NO ONES

But just wanted to make sure that everyone checks local state laws before using deadly force. And to the origional poster. Get cameras! Best way to catch someone and prove it.

This is why we do not brag about our collections to anyone. Nor do we let people into our homes to see them. Plus, anyone who will not buy locally from a breeder who will not invite you to their house to see the snake in question, is not someone I
would sell to anyway because this is the exact reason why.

You really need to go to home depot or Walmart and pick up a couple no trespassing signs. Then the next time he is on your property, you have the right to use force on him. Then have him arrested. Make sure your snakes are inside your house and that your racks have vertical bars installed down the fronts from top to bottom. A hinge with hidden screws at one end and a D ring to pad lock the other end. So the tubs can not be pulled out if you're not home.

i never bring people in my home and of all my freinds only one has been to my house . and has seen my snakes and i can trust him. and like i said i know who it might be i am 99% sure who it is or that they told some one to do it for them.and if i ever sell something local maybe once or twice a year i go to their place or we meet up somewhere.
