Moody corns.
Well, this is my first experience with corns (I wouldn't have normally taken one on as I'm not big on colubrids, but she was a rescue, and she's pretty cool I have to admit). Here's my question: do female corns (or corns in general) go through mood swings like her? She was a total sweetie the first few days I got her (had to handle her for cage maintenance), but then she went into shed and became a total psycho! She was striking at the plexi door as I walked by, and she was rattling her tail and everything. She shed this morning, so I'm giving her some time to cool off, but is it normal for them to get THAT moody?

Corns are usually nice snakes, but yes they can get moody! I have one who's a brat 99% of the time, and a few others who get cranky maybe 5-10% of the time... usually while in shed, or if I disturb them while sleeping - but sometimes for no reason at all. I have noticed it's the females who tend to be moodier, kinda like us human gals I suppose.
Since yours just shed, I would assume she was moody because of that... guess you'll have to wait and see, though!

Corns are usually pretty mellow, even in shed, but I've had a few that were like that. Its probably because of her shedding, but if she decides she is gunna be a psycho 24/7, don't think its your fault. Some are just grumps. I've got a female reverse okeetee and a male striped that are as mean as an amazon tree boa and cannot be tamed. It happens.
Give it a couple days and try again. Don't let her frighten ya. Corn bites are laughable.

Re: Moody corns.
My male is very laid back and has never gotten snippy with me. My female, on the other hand, gets VERY angry when she is in shed. She strikes and rattles her tail if you go near her when she's in blue. The only other time I've seen her get angry was when she was laying eggs, but I can't really blame her for that because I'm sure that would suck!

That is true, LOL. The other day my Amel girl Coraline decided to attack a paper towel roll, which I was using to block her from escaping (my hands were covered in mouse smell, since it was feeding time). She looked ALL serious about it, too, which made me laugh even harder at her.

Yep! My Western Hognose, who's usually the sweetest snake ever, loves to hiss & hood at me during sheds... I've always called it "Hoggie PMS."
