    Yet Another Tub Heating Question

So I orginally was going to put my spider in a tall 50gallon aquarium. It turned out near impossible to get the enviorment correct, so I decided to go the tub route.

I have a herpstat & It is set to 92.5 to give me 90 in the tub. The pad felt very warm to me so I put a temp probe on it to see & it was 101. I have checked it numerous times over the last few days and it has gone from 97-101 constantly. Is this normal for the pad to be that much higher than what the herpstat is set to?

I also ordered some 4" flexwatt to see if maybe it was just the pad, but it is doing the samething.

On beanfarm it states to not let the flexwatt exceed 95 degrees & I am unsure as to what the pad max is. I am assuming it can go above that, but seems odd that it is going to 97+ to give me 90 in the tub. I just want to make sure that everything will be safe & sound.

    Here is more info:

The hot side is 90 and the cool is 75(night) to 81.
    Humidity 58%.
    Tub size is 15qt.
The herpstat is brand new I just got it last week from beanfarm.
    indoor temp 80.

    Thanks all
    Tim

What are you using to measure those temps and where are you taking the readings? Tubs are pretty thin, so the heat transfers through them pretty well. I can't speak to the Herpstat settings since I don't have one, but I would recommend adjusting as needed to get the desired temps inside the tub...

Also, is the UTH taped or stuck to the bottom of the tub or is it fixed to the shelf with the tub just sitting on top of it?

Re: Yet Another Tub Heating Question

Thanks for replying so fast! I am just using a acurite thermometer and placing the probe on the tape/pad, I also have a older digital zilla & it gives me the same readings of 97-101 on the tape/pad.

I have the pad on the top of a dresser not taped just sitting with the tub on top. The heat tape I have taped on a small ghetto rack I attempted to build with foil tape & the tub sitting on top.

I saw a post that someone used a piece of plastic tub to attach the herpstat probe to then attach it to the uth is this a good idea to do? Right now I just have the probe taped to either the pad or the tape with electrical tape. I am getting correct temps inside my main concern is the uth being so high when the herpstat is set far below what the uth is getting to.
