I was in the middle of feeding my baby balls (they are in the living room) and this guy walks in and starts going nuts because he LOVES snakes and wants to hold them(which I did not allow). Of course the sudden activity freaks the two babies I was feeding out and they didn't eat. He asks to see my other snakes and to be nice to my mother in law I take him into the reptile room. Big mistake. He asks to see my boa (I had mentioned to him I had one) and so I pull her tub out. She is, of course, hungry and I tell him its best if we don't take her out because she's hungry. Without hesitation he reaches in and grabs her and pulls her out of the tub and starts spouting off how to properly handle a snake. I was like wth? I got her back from him and put her away and ended the "tour". Now I'm really paranoid about people in my reptile room.
    Oh hell no... lol

Wow that would have ^%\?|£.+,')&$(;($*#|%+ me off. Wow.... I just dont understand why someone would just reach in and grab someone else's snakes without asking.

We have a couple of friends who we allow to hold our reptiles. The kids all enjoy the snakes. Scott builds cages, racks ect ....and if we have people coming to the house we don't know to pick up their cage or what ever Scott made, we usually don't allow them to see our collection. I guess it just depends on the people really. We have some expensive reptiles and I would be ready to kill of someone we showed the collection to and didn't really know came and robbed us.

    Lol good question.

I personally have a gf and tons of friends and friends of friends over a lot. So when it comes to my piebald and 1000$+(and/or potential money maker) snakes that i may have i am pretty selective on who holds them. Pretty much if you can appreciate there value and treat them as such i can trust you enough to hold them a bit, but if you just "WANT TO SEE A SNAKE MAN!!!" ill give your a normal.

This. When my daughters want to handle the snakes I let them, but I don't go far from them while they are doing it. Anyone who hasn't before I usually don't.

Whenever I let people handle mine, I always give them the rundown on what to do to make sure they don't do anything dumb. I also always have hand sanitizer nearby. There have been times when someone wanted to handle him when I didn't want them to, so I just told them I just fed. Works every time!

I'm the same! As long as I know they are completely cool with it, I'll let them hold it. My BP Levi has been around children numerous times, so he's the one I let my friends handle the most. I love letting my friends who are freaked out by snakes hold him because it shows them they are completely harmless to them if they're tame enough, and my boy is as pretty tame as he comes.

Levi is mature at the point where he isn't snappy toward anyone, but can share the same concern that you never know when a BP might become snappy toward anyone. I at least let my BP get used to his bearings out of his tank a little before passing him over to somebody.

This is me exactly. My daughters have friends over and they hold the snakes all the time. The first question I ask any new friend is what type of pets do you have at home. If there is any type of exotic that could have something that would infect my collection the snakes are off limits. None of my snakes are off limits. They are not fragile animals and my kids understand how to handle them. If my hets ever produce an albino pied I might reconsider that last statement.

When dealing with other snake people that I don't know very well I always have hand sanitizer. If possible I prefer to meet somewhere but on the rare times I have to meet them at my house I make sure in conversation that I mention the security system and Bullmastiffs. They never come inside. Maybe I'm a little paranoid.

I have only had two people over that actually wanted to hold one of mine. I don't know why but I was nervous about it. I knew Rocko wouldn't bite or anything. I think I was just afraid they might drop him.
