I honestly would go with the VE-300.
If your planning on breeding it has a built in night drop which is so convienant!
Just invest that extra $50 for it. Plus I belive it can power up to 50ft of heat tape which is a full rack and then some. Im very happy with it.
Good choice looking into the VE series!

    Unhappy Re: Ve-100 thermostat?

I personally have the VE-100 wich is just an on/off thermostat but it's already failed me once on a single rack (Temp got to 120) . Stuff breaks, thats life but when it happens to you personally it'll make you think twice about going with a particular unit a second time around.

The specs on the VE-300 look great though, but the specs on the Herpstat and Helix units look great too as does the track record.

    Just my 2 cents worth

I've had the VE-100 going as a backup to the VE-300 on my incubator for about a month now and it seems pretty solid.

    Re: Ve-100 thermostat?

I have to admit that it's nice to see so many positive reviews of the VE line. That drastically helps my mind look at this as a fluke as opposed to the possibility of poor engineering or craftmenship. I was and still am very happy with my rack, and the courteous service from Rich when I placed my order directly from RBI was fantastic.

I might just have to get the 100 replaced under warranty, buy a 300 and use the original as a back up.

Thanks again for the good feed back

Have you contacted Rich about this? He stands behind his products and has great customer service. Your thermostat should not fail, especially if it is fairly new.

I don't have any personal experience with the VE line of thermostats but have both a Helix 1000 and a Herpstat II. The Herpstat is head and shoulders above the Helix if you're looking at either of those, as is the customer service from Spyder Robotics (producers of the Herpstat). The Herpstat has better features, a wider range of options, upgradeable software, etc. Just a nicer system overall for not too much more money than what a Helix cost. Just my two cents...
    Good luck with your decision!

Quirky - Rich at RBI is great to deal with and will bend over backwards to help you out if you had an issue with your thermostat. Give him a call or send an e-mail and he'll make it right for you. Sucks that that happened and glad you didn't lose any animals as a result or have any irreplaceable issues as a result.
