Re: What to get to start out?

ok, so if you have a house and do not have to worry about moving from dorm to dorm...

Get a Bumble Bee Female, Lemon Blast female, another few females that you like, and a highend male. How highend is up to you and your wallet. If you can get a Desert male, I would look at that or a Champagne male. If those are too $$$$$, get a nice Double or Triple Co-Dom male. I would stay under 10 snake, so spend wisely.

i like the idea of the bumble bee male. that seems to give me a lot of options to start with if i go with only about 3-4 females to start with. right now im leaning towards 1.0 bumble bee, 0.1 pastel het clown, 0.1 pinstripe, 0.1 lesser. one question i have is would it be better to go with the pastel het clown or a spider het clown?

    Bumble bee male...

I like to have a male that has no spider in it. While I love the Spider morph, there is a good percentage of people out there that will not buy Spiders because of the wobble. If you get a Bee male, half your offspring could be Spiders. Secondly, there is no Super Spider, I like my males to be able to make Supers, and if they are combos, I like both morphs of the combo to be able to produce Supers....Pastel Yellowbelly, Sulfur Mojave, Butter Cinnamon, etc. There are a ton of Bees out there, and even more Spiders and Pastel, why would you want to make more? I produce Spiders and Pastels on accident, while shooting for other Combos. While it might or might not fit my "Super producing male", I would say a Calico or Calico cross male would be a great male to start out with. A Bee and Blast female and a Calico male would be sweet, and a great start. Remember, buy your females now, and you might get a free Pastel or lower end male along with the purchase of your combo females. Keep the lower end male as a back up, and get your male next year. Females take longer to mature.

Pastel seems to enhance everything... And a Super Pastel produces all Pastels...

Thus I chose to use a Super Pastel male putting him to several single morph females. This guarantees all of my morphed offspring are double morphs (pastel + mother's morph)...

I agree with the suggestion above to avoid a male with Spider in it. Spider is one of my absolute favorite appearances, I have personally chosen to stay away from them as I do n0ot want to contribute to wobbly snakes. I understand not everyone feels this way, but enough people do to warrant not using a spider male as your sole breeding male.

    Free male....

If you bought a few snakes from me, and really wanted a Pastel, and I had a male sitting around, you could have it. Some Het pairs, where the value is really in the female, you basically get the male free. Bottom line, if you spend a few grand and need a Pastel male, you can have one

The female pastel het clown/spider het clown is nice ($1500+ nice) but you would want a male clown or at least het clown to go with it.
It does make sense to buy the females first, I bought some females and a male to start, but had larger normals to breed him to the first year.
Plus, waiting another year to buy the male might give what you want some time to drop in price.
