When should I feed my ball python
Ok this is my 1st snake I have ever had it's a baby ball python and today I went out and bought some frozen pinky rats and I was wondering if I should feed it atnight time or during the day it's more active at night but what would you rather do

I am not sure when exactly you brought this BP home, but be sure to leave it alone for 5-7 days to allow it to acclimate and calm down from a stressful change in environment. After it has had time to relax, I would suggest trying to feed it at night. I typically feed mine between 9:00PM and 11:00PM and get great feeding responses, considering they are a nocturnal species. Just be sure to thaw it out correctly!

it depends on the snake really i have fed morning noon and night with success.
i would also up the prey size to hoppers at least pinks are a little too small just make sure you warm up the rat b4 you offer

Once youve let your bp acclimate just make sure that you do thaw the rat/mouse right and lay it there and leave the room, Check on it in about an hour or so and if not then maybe try to wiggle it around using some tongs not your fingers...TONGS hehehe and if still nothing then try again in about 5 days and do the same process...itll eat eventually for ya. GOood luck

Re: When should I feed my ball python
I'd feed hopper mice instead of pinky rats for a hatchling, but thats just my opinion. I usually feed my snakes in the afternoon, at around 5:30 when I get back from work. It's convenient, and my snake rarely turns down a mouse.

You don't want to feed mice. A ball may like mice better and when it gets bigger, you will need to feed 4 or 5 mice a week which will get pricey. I would leave him completely alone for a week then feed a fuzzy rat to him every 5 days! He may not take it the first couple times. You can leave it in overnight to see if he will eat it! Good luck!
