    How to handle this?

First let me start with a little background info. 5 yrs ago I purchased 2 baby ball pythons, 1 female and 1 male. After two years, come to find out both were male. I had what I thought was a friend trade me one of the males for what he told me was a female. I, like an idiot, trusted him on this since he had been breeding ball pythons for around 10 yrs. Well this past year I thought my male was ready to breed. Long story cut short, I just probed all of my balls and they all probed out male. Should I go back to him about this? I have had him for three yrs now. I know I will never step foot in this guys store again. Please let me know what you all think.

I would say something but I'm that type of person. I have a really strong personality. If nothing else, you learned that a snake should always be sexed before you bank on anything. Sucks to hear. Hope you have a backup plan!

I would take it back to him and ask him to sex it for you! Just tell him the story on how you bought the snake as a female and you probed it as a male! Maybe you are probing wrong or maybe he did? If he is a good guy, he may trade you for a female even if it's just a baby ball. Really, you have nothing to lose by talking to him!

    Re: How to handle this?

Three years is a LONG time. Would the person even remember the transaction? If you think they would or should remember...then it never hurts to mention the mix up and give them a chance to do something about it if they wish to.

However, you're not really in a position to force them to do anything about it. If they offer some kind of compensation, then you're better off than you were before you said anything. If they don't offer any compensation, then you at least know where you stand with them and are no worse off than if you hadn't said anything at all.

I agree also....take the lesson to heart. Never assume an animal's sex just because an "expert" told you so. Even the best of them can make a mistake sexing a snake. It happens.

Well, how does this sound, I now have 5 males and no females. What if I asked him if he wanted to trade 2 of my males for 1 female and I would probe it before it left the store.

I would tell him your story first and he may trade one for one. It may at least make him feel bad and give the two for one deal that you want! Good luck!
