    rat split open

i just threw in a rat for my bp and after a while of squeezing it, it all the sudden poped and its guts are sticking out, i dont know if this is a bad thing or not so should i let him try and eat it or try to get it back?

ok he just ate it but while he was finishing it a bedding chip got lodged into his jaws and he couldnt swallow the rat, so i grabbed the tongs and pulled the chip out than he finally got it all down. now im thinking to take him to a vet just to make sure nothing bad happened but i dont know any vets for reptiles anywhere around newmarket, ontario if anyone knows one please pm me.

    Re: rat split open

    Hi,

    Was this an F/T rat?

It sounds as though you defrosted it at too high a temperature or it had been defrosted before.

    They really shouldn't split.

I don't think he will need to see a vet if I'm honest unless there was something else that happened?

it was probally from thawing it at too high of a temp i put the rat in a ziplock and put hot tap water in it, its not boiling hot but i guess its too hot to thaw in.

I use water at 110F for a hour till it cools off. Then add water again at 100F to rewarm the rats and this has been good to no get any rats exploding
