    What size prey to feed

Hey--This is my first BP so I have another rookie question : )
She is young BP and the largest part of the snake is a little bigger than the size of a US quarter. I heard that I should be feeding her small rats but they look so big. Is that an appropriate size for her?

Re: What size prey to feed

Some people like using the thickest part of the snake as the way of determining prey size. The method is more useful for larger and fatter snakes. For a baby snake it's an easy decision; they should only be fed mice or baby rats. Go for whatever's easiest for you.
Ride the snake, ride the snake/ To the lake, the ancient lake, baby/ The snake is long, seven miles/ Ride the snake...he's old, and his skin is cold... (The End, The Doors)

The guide line of the thickness part of the snakes body is accurate. Thats what most people do for judging prey size.
I would feed her a mouse crawler or hopper or a 15-20 day old rat pup.
I like feeding rats right away because when that BP gets big its very annoying to fed so many adult mice for an adult BP to benefit from.
Weaning BPs from mice to rats is sometimes hard.
Are you feeding live or frozen thawed, and how often will you be feeding?

I have one that size and she does well on rat pups.
