    Question African house snake care

I am currently researching African house snakes, and I wanted to know what you have experienced in caring for these snakes as far as temperament, temperature preferences (my sources have stated 90F on the hot side and as low as 70F on the cool side), and behavior (including handleability, feeding responses, tendency to climb, etc.).

    Thanks!

I don't know much about them but I would call Brian at BHB enterprises, he breeds them and can answer all your questions and maybe even sell you one.

I've only had my little maculatus house snake since May 28th, but so far it has been a great snake to have.

It is a bit wriggly when first removing it from it's enclosure, but it settls down quickly once you have it in your hands.

They really like to have a tight grip on your hands so let it weave in and out of your fingers and support as much of it's body as you can.

It has a strong feeding response, mine seems to aim for the head so it can start swallowing the prey before it even constricts it.

I keep one side of its viv at 90F, but I really only notice the snake on the warm side when it has eaten. Usually it is hiding on the opposite side which currently stays around 73F at night, and climbs to 80 during the day.

they do seem to enjoy climbing, but the most important thing they need is a hide that helps them feem snug. Mine loves a paper towel folded in half.

@Cohazard... 90 degrees is a max Range for that Specie.... on Cold side even 70 degrees is all right.
I'm getting More and ore intrigued by that little fellows.
I'm Ordering Pair of Striped Adults form Outback now.. and thinking about Cape House snakes as well..
They Supposedly are feeding and Breeding machines ( 3 clutches in year is normal for them).
Some people even burmating them during winter (between 45-60 degrees) like other colubrids but that is not really necessary...
As Sun As I Pick My Animals i will be creating separate tread Just for them.
I like to see a photo of Your little bugger if You dont mind
