    new to dragons questions

    Hello everyone!

I usually am in the ball python sections but my partner really really wants a bearded dragon. We both volunteer with a reptile rescue agency and a dragon has just come up for adoption. He is a male about 3 years old and 18 inches long. He is arriving with a set up viv 4x2x3 The unit is complete with 4 foot uv bulbs and che I am told that it is complete and working correctly holding high 90s and low 80s on the cool side.

My question is do I have to quarantine the dragon away from my ball pythons? is there any advise about bringing an adult dragon into my home that you can offer? I have read 8 and counting care sheets and feel that I still need some research but have the basics covered. If there is good place to to continue my reading that any can suggest I'd be grateful!
    Thanks
    Alex

My beardie doesn't care about BP, or the other way around and they are housed close together. So there is no worry.
Beardies are wonderful pet lizards, I'm sure you'll enjoy him as much as I enjoy mine. They have such an awesome personality! Really neat!
Do you have basking light in that enclosure, b/c you will need it. It's best and cheaper to use regular flood/spot bulbs for basking (that's what I'm using, and they are working great for me).

If you have any questions about beardies please ask, your beardie will love you for it!

Check out this site, it's the best beardie forum out there, just like BP.net is for ball pythons: http://www.beardeddragon.org

Yes you should Q. There are things that can be shared from reptile to reptile, not just snake to snake or lizard to lizard. Better safe than sorry.

I felt that q was safer I had planned on placing the beardie beside one of my enclosures I have figured out a way of moving it elsewhere for a few months.

Atrax thanks for the like I'll check it out soon. To answer your question I have a single image of the enclosure and a a friend whom works for a reptile zoo looked him over and says he appears to be in good health. That is about all I know at this moment, so I can't tell you if there is a basking light but my assumption that the orginal owner has had him for 4 years and he is in good health (outwardly anyway) there must be reasonable husbantry. It is now unsure if he will end up comming to me after all, it is a bit up in the air

I have sourced a local supply of UV lights and I have a CHE and fixture, in case it isn't very well set up. I am hoping that small adjustments are all that will be needed rather than large ones. I am still reading I have just located the Philippe De Vosjoli book locally I hope to pick it up tomorrow.

Keep your fingers crossed that we get him and he doesn't end up with the not so willing mother.
