Are you candling in a pitch dark room?

It's not perfectly pitch dark, but it is the middle of the night and the lights are off, so it's close.

I think the biggest problem is user inexperience, to be honest. I can see the snake moving around in there, but I have a hard time discerning anything but shape.

Can we see a pic of the females belly? If she carries the het pied marker, I would feel more hopeful than if she didn't...Although some het pieds have no markers and some normals carrie a "marker". Just my thoughts. My gut says you got fleeced, but Good luck! Here's to some Pieds!

I'll work on getting a belly pic when I get home tonight, but I honestly don't remember if she carries the marker or not. I didn't worry about it too much and don't put much store in the het pied marker, because, like you said, it's not a true marker.

The guy swore up and down that she produced 2 pieds for him a year earlier. Even knowing that, he kept calling her a "66% het," which I thought was pretty funny seeing as he had proven her out.

He was selling off his whole collection and getting out of BPs altogether for health reasons. Here's hoping he had his facts straight, at least with regards to this girl.

I'll say this...My hets have very obvious markers. I'll get pics of them tonight. If i'm looking through a bunch of possible hets and see some with markers...I know which ones i'm holding back.

I didn't get a chance to get belly pictures last night; I'll see if I can get some taken and posted today. Hopefully, we'll prove her out in a couple of days, and then the belly marker discussion will be purely academic.

I agree...Just wanted to show you my het. and his strong markers. I think markers are a great reference if you know the snakes genetic background, but without that it is still just an educated guess. I have seen pet store animals w/ slight markers. If it was a female I would have purchased it just to use it as a dinker and try and prove it out.

Anyway...In several days you will hopefully have all the proof you need. Baby Pieds don't lie!

This is a crazy post for me, because i have the exact same situation going on. I am at day 53 right now. I am pretty certain of the male, though this is his first clutch for me right now. The female I bought at Tinley last February, and got her for a song. Though, i dont have any papers, and it was not a BP breeder, but rather a Retic Breeder, that got this girl on trade. She has very nice markings though, which is why I took the chance.
