They are insulin syringes. He is just being a baby. He totally pitches a fit. He looks totally well also. I have not critically looked at the female in several days but she seems to be okay and I hear nothing coming out of the aquarium. Hmmmm, it would be nice if they were well.

Well sorry he's a little booger. I guess some can be little brats. But it sounds like things are getting better over there for ya. That's a great accomplishment.

I checked on the snakes today and the male looks great but the female (original sick one) is blowing bubbles again. This is really sad. She is just failing to thrive. I suppose this is how it goes sometimes.

    Re: Is my Bp sick????????

    Hi,

At this point I think you need to spend a little extra to get a sensitivity culture done before the next round of antibiotics.

That way they should be able to make certain that this round will actually be effective in wiping the infection out.

I was thinking that as well. The bad news is that I am leaving town for 4-6 days so the soonest I could get her in will be early next week which is killing me. I can not do anything about it though as my bus leaves today

    Re: Is my Bp sick????????

    Update:

I got back from my trip and the snake looks no worse but no better. I took her to the vet today and he gave her a vit A and vit D injection. He also gave her a dose of metro/panacure and swabbed her for culture. It will take some time on the culture though. He thinks the RI has a good chance of resolving on its own at this point but we will have the culture for back up if it gets worse. She has lost about 20 grams though. I may have to offer her live for a while. The male looks great still and took a 45 gram F/T rat today.

Culture came back 4+++ Pseudomonas. Sensitivity is not back yet but the vet wants to try a higher dose of Baytril since it worked seemingly well on my other snake.

    Hi,

It's fairly standard practice to start a course of treatment while waiting on the sensitivity results and then switch to a different treatment if the results show it will be more effective.

Fingers crossed this finally gets the problem nailed on the head and the snake gets back to full health.

The snake died this morning. Baytril came back as an intermediate sensitive drug so we switched to gentocin. The Dr warned that the drug could cause renal failure and I am guessing that is what happened. Pretty sad-she died face in the water dish She just never got any better, failed to thrive. I invested a lot of time and a reasonable amount of money into that "free" snake. So sad she didn't make it. Just wanted to update all who were interested.
