    Getting ready to breed

    Well,

We now have a breeder male, and I'm hoping my female will be up to size by June.

What weight should they be to breed?
I know alot of people say they shouldnt go by weight but by age and other factors.

The female is a normal, she was underfed for awhile. Right now shes 3 years old and 1200grams. When I see pictures of other breeder females they're HUGE lol. I dont want to hurt her, so I'm trying to do the best I can to get my facts straight.

Right now she is feeding off of two bite rabbits.

The male is an 800g spider, proven breeder that I got off of a friend.

The normal rule is 1500g, but it also depends on how long your female is. If she hits 1500g and still looks thin she needs more weight. However, if she had decent girth (but not too fat) for her length she will be good to go.

I had similar worries as you. My female was 1600G when I got her. But she had very little girth and is very long (about 5 feet) so I decided to hold her back even though by the rule of thumb she is ready to breed. With her length I figure she needs to be at least 2400G to be a good breeder.

I think the general rule is about 500g per foot of snake.

Ohhh okay, that helps alot. I will give her a good length measure when I get back to my girlfriends.

Starting breeding might take longer than I expected.. >.<

    Oh well.
