    Help please

Heres my back story- I got a juvenile ball from a crackhead who was killing it with wrong temps and no humidity, about 3 weeks ago. Yes he was a real crackhead, his girlfriend gave me the snake an all the stuff he had for it, 30 gal tank, uvb bulb, uth, tree branches, ect…. My wife agreed only after the girlfriend said she didn’t want another animal to die in their apartment. This is my first ball an my first snake in about 20 years.

Now- ive got him in a 25qt sterilite tub. Hes eaten twice. He doesn’t mind being handled. I cleaned up the old shed that was stuck to him. But my cool side temp reads 75, my hot side reads 114- that’s under the newspaper substrate its much less on top, and my humidity is often over 75%.

Im planning on ordering the reptile basics ve-200 what should I get to replace the zilla uth?

    Thanks for any help

I would suggest going to Lowes or Home Depot and getting a lamp dimmer switch which will allow you to control the UTH until you can get a thermostat. 114F is way too hot. Here is a link to a thread that has photos of what the dimmer switch looks like:

As long as the UTH is not covering more than 1/2 of the floor space, you shouldn't need to replace it.

I'd leave the uth, just get a thermostat for it.

If you really don't like the UTH, get some flexwatt from Reptile Basics. I use it with my tubs and love it.

Your temps are crazy because you have the uth running full blast. You need a tstat or a dimmer at least. Without your always going to gave that problem or a burned snake. Hydrofarm makes a decent one, also I've heard good things about the Johnsons.
