By the way, what are you using to candle the eggs? I'm liking all the blue. lol

It's just a blue flashlight ... One of those small one's .. I didn't have a normal egg candler so i decided to use this.

That's really cool with the blue. I've got 2 weeks left on one clutch and candle them 2 or 3 times a week to cheat and see the pattern on the babies

very cool pics. gotta love those bino's wanted one ever since Clark got that first one all those years ago. they finnaly got down to a price my broke @ss could afford and i picked up my first last year and he's still one of my favorites. best of luck with the odds.

You made my day with your optimistic reply. It seems reptile eggs are far more rugged and resilient than many would have us believe. I wanted some additional advice and hope you don't mind me asking in this thread. I have some eggs (monitor eggs actually) that are 60 days into incubation and the incubator broke down at the weekend. They were cooled to the low 70s for a few hours. I moved them into a temporary tank but the heat (now coming from above) dried the air more and when i checked them this morning one of the eggs had 2 dents in it and another underneath, others were starting to dent too. I managed to repair the original incubator under pressure and got them back in. Now the humidity is back high again and the box looks like it used to (with some condensation).

I had to move a couple of the eggs and they took additional dents from my extremely careful fingers! other than that they look white and fine. They are now sitting back happily, but do you think i have caught them in time and will the dents fill out? Basically they have had a rough ride for 24 hours.

As you can probably gather i am very new to incubation and seeking advice from experts regardless of the species kept.

That's not actually true. I've had an egg roll out of the pile not once but twice and had to return it to mom's coils and it hatched out without any trouble.


There was also an experiment carried out on eggs to see what effect this had, if any, on the embryos growing inside eggs that were turned at different times during incubation.

Not trying to burst your bubble but I've seen people get so panicky just because they might have accidentally turned an egg one way or another and think they've doomed the baby. Just one less issue to fret over with eggs.
