Incubator fans
I got my new incubator all put together and am about to seal the drain hole, but before I did I wanted to asked those of you who put a fan in the incubator... How much air does your fan move? If you put you hand above it can you feel a good breeze or can you barely notice it? The reason I ask is that I am using the fan out of a computer that I no longer use, but even though it is spinning I can't tell if it is moving the air enough. Thanks for the info!

How big is your incubator? If its about the size of a mini fridge I think you'll be fine. You don't want to put a fan that is too powerful and will generate too much heat.
The point of having the fan is try to maintain an even temperature throughout the incubator. A good way to test if you fan is performing adequately is to place thermometers at different levels of the incubator and let it run for a few hours, then check to see how consistent the temps stay throughout.

Re: Incubator fans
its a 120qt coleman cooler. almost exactly the same size as my mini fridge
with the herpstat probe on one side and a thermometer on the other the temp on herpstat probe side is 89.1 and the thermo side is about 90.0. The fan is on the thermometer side

Re: Incubator fans
You should be fine. I have a similar temperature gradient in my incubator.

Re: Incubator fans
I went ahead and just filled the hole with silicone and got both sides of the cooler to 89.2 last night and woke up this morning and they were both still at 89.2, now...the wait for eggs =D

Re: Incubator fans
You dont want to feel much of a breeze, that will cause cooling and evaporation. You just need to move the air enough so you don't get hot or cool spots, not to make wind.
I have used a full size coke fridge(for 5 seasons) with a computer fan and it is more than enough, you should be fine.
