Considering a 6 year old Blood male...advice please...
I am considering purchasing a blood or fire cornsnake. Found a 6 year old male (beautiful Bloodred het Pied-Sided). I am just looking for a beautiful and active display snake (I will not breed).
The male is older, and I would prefer an adult, but what type of longevity can I expect? Is a snake of this breeding and age likely to be "fragile"? The asking price is $250 which is not cheap all things considered. Is this a wise idea for a pet?
(PS let us not point out any geographical concerns, my other home is in the Hamptons and of course that is where the snake would reside. : )

Nice choice!! Bloodreds are one of my fav corn morphs, and pied-sideds are very cool looking
Corn snakes generally have a life span of 20-30 years, depending on the individual. An average would be around 20, but they can live for longer, so no, if he's only 6 he's not "fragile" at all haha Just in his prime actually!!
As for the price, it's up to you. I'd say if you like him you should go for it. Corns aren't really what I would consider to be a display snake, but they definitely are more active than ball pythons and you probably will see him more often. Most of them have very nice temperaments and mine are always very curious when I'm around their enclosures.

$250 for an adult male is pretty steep, probably asking that price because of the "het pied" part. Though I wouldn't drop that sort of money, because that snake isn't worth that much to me. But only you can decide how much its worth to you.

I agree, it's a little steep in my opinion. If you're not interested in breeding then paying the extra money for the het pied sided is throwing money away in my opinion as well. Look on http://kingsnake.com
Look in the classifieds under Colubrids and go to corn snakes. Look around on there before you make your decision. Ultimately, if you think the snake is worth the money, then it's worth the money.
