New camera lens came in today!

And I still have no idea what the hell I'm doing. ARG.

Anyway, here's some new pics. Slightly doctored since my camera didn't like the brightness of the light tent at all. Maybe auto white balance = bad? No idea.

    Danny

    Lessers

    Butters

    Spiders

Black Pastels. One slithered off camera...

    Cinnys

    Pieds

    Axanthic Closeup

    Criticisms welcome!

    A low white pied?

The pics look really good to me. I can't help you on the white camera issues, it's all a foreign language to me. But, great pics!

It's a Canon Rebel T1i and I just got a macro lens. I was not expecting how far I would have to stand back to be able to fit the entire snake into the pic. It's rather annoying :/

With a Macro lens, you're supposed to get SMALL detail in the pic. The point of a Macro is to do like you did with the last picture. A macro allows you to get such high detail. Try doing that same picture as the last one with the 18-55mm kit lens on the Rebel. Your camera won't be able to focus unless you're about 18 inches away. With a Macro, you can get incredibly close, and yet still have the lens focus properly.

If you want something that will encompass the whole snake, look at a wide angle lens, that can go 17mm or less, such as a 12 or 15mm prime lens.

Yea I know, this is why I wanted the macro lens. I guess I was just a bit naive in thinking that I could get the best of both worlds for the price.

Whatever. I'm going to make this thing work

In time you will get better. Don't be afraid to get close with that lens. Like REALLY CLOSE. You should be able to take a pastel's eyes and be able to see just how vibrant the green is in those big glassy eyes. (Just for example.) Also, read read read. A lot of people don't know that's one of the keys to getting better at photography.
