Exactly, that's why I brew my own. Right now I have a coffee stout (no coffee added, just coffee malt but it still has a nice coffee flavor) and a smoked ale on tap. I also have a Gulden Draak clone in the primary that I will soon rack to a keg. It should be ready to drink in a year and at its prime in 2 to 3 years. And next week I will be brewing a nice double IPA.

There's nothing wrong with mass-produced American lagers if that's your thing, but to me they taste like corn and beer flavored water. I think people in this country are finally waking up to the diversity and quality of crafted beers. It's no longer a cheap drink to get you drunk and quench your thirst, but something to be savored and enjoyed like a good wine. In the 1980s there were only 8 craft breweries in the United States. Today there are over 1,600... more than any other time in history. This is the golden age for beer lovers.

I use to be a big Miller fan..but over the years I've gotten to like the dark Ale's and and amber Stouts. There is a Ale Brewed in LA Called a Turbo Dog by the Abita brewing company, its dark, thick on the palate, heads nice, wonderfull nose, and that salty bitter finish..LOVE IT!!

Other than that Boston Luger by Sam Adams, or some of the "Flat tire" beers from Colorado.. I still drink Miller every now and then like at the Ball Park or when I'm up in Milwaukee but for the most part I'm a dark kind of guy..

P.S. in my college days I visited an Irish pub here in town. Now them boy's know how to knock back the draught.

We brew our own as well, we just finished off a batch of what was supposed to be a red but we grabbed the wrong grains and it turned into more of a stout. One of our best mistakes ever!

We are currently waiting on a Cream ale to finish while drinking an Oktoberfest we bottled 3 weeks ago.

We have been playing with old recipes from all over, some that are translated and some that are just crazy. I really enjoy the process and the outcomes

As far as things you can buy around here, I have been enjoying stuff from a local place, Flying Dog, and Dogfish brews as well. We have a McHenry ale that is one of the best I have had and their Heavy seas is a kick butt IPA.

I love the double chocolate stout, it is a very good beer.... You can find the russian imperial stout and most good liquor/beer stores. It comes in a 22 oz bottle....

Re: The unofficial all things BEER thread!

    Sierra Nevada for the win!

Inexpensive craft brew, freaking delicious. Sell it at 7-11

I love me some IPA's, but when i'm drinking on a budget I always go for Sierra Nevada.

I live across the street from Firehouse Brewery (the one in San Diego, not the one that makes "Hops on Rye") and they have a $2 Tuesday (pints). Doesn't get much better than cheap beer directly from the source. I can bring my dog too!

Love this thread, making me thirsty!
