After all, there is NO point in trying to understand HIS point of view when he clearly does not, or is it can not, understand yours. Is there? Why be tolerant or, heaven forfend, try to educate him about feeding snakes WITHOUT attacking him for eating meat.

That's really pretty lame. The one has NOTHING to do with the other.

The guy may be a wuss. but so what? Wusses don't get to have opinions? And who's to say he's really a wuss? You cowboys who are so blessed as to be able to feed one animal to another without feeling guilt or remorse which, since YOU don't feel it, must be wrong, bad, evil even.

    Yeah.

Glad I'm not 'friends' with some of you tolerant non-gossipy folks.
Crying over a rat yet he eats meat? Im sorry, but there is no logic in that. Im actually quite a beta male myself. Im the kind of guy that picks up worms during rain storms and puts them out of harms way. I also save wasps, spiders etc etc. Seems you made an equal assumption on us . No difference at all. Our reaction to him stirred an equal reaction from you about us. I have to say if you caught that guys reaction on film it would be a hands down 1 million plus viewed youtube video

I never said anything about him being a wuss. I DID point out that there are many other animals who will kill and torture others--that most people generally ignore. People might get grossed out when their dogs and cats bring them 'gifts'...But very few people will actually sob about it and think about the pain and how long it could have taken that animal to actually die... Just part of nature.. And yet, snakes are often excluded from that natural order, and feeding them is just cruel and disgusting? Especially if you were to feed p/k... we try to do things as humanely as possible, we do love animals after all, we just also happen to love carnivores who can't be fed processed food as well. I do feel bad when my snake refuses to eat p/k or f/t.. It makes me uncomfortable, but I don't end up bawling because I understand it's a part of life. But I have seen what happens when a cat--another animal I love dearly--decides that it wants to play with another living thing before finally ending it's life. It's rather gruesome and I feel it is important to acknowledge that fact. I also think it's important, if you eat meat you must know where it comes from. Make an educated choice, guys! I try to only get my meat from places I believe are better about caring for their animals, but I don't hide and say it's different, as I know..something was killed so that I can eat. Be it a mouse for a snake or a gazelle for a lion. Part of that whole circle of life junk

Who says I don't feel bad for the rat? I don't sit there and laugh evily while the thing is screaming in my BP's jaws. Yeah, I feel bad a for the rat. But guess what? My snake has to eat. Just like his dogs have to eat (yes, dog food is made out of meat, not just vegetables). He was being completley irrational and a total baby.

I love rats! They are loving, cuddly, intelligent animals. They make excellent pets. I've had many myself. I also love snakes and as much of a sucker I am for cute little rats, they exist to feed snakes as well.

It's the circle of life, Simba.

Still I can't stand the people who laugh at it or say things like "that's so cool/sick!"

How could you feed that sweet little rat to a mean snake hmmm?

Tell him the same way that sweet little rat would happily eat him if it had to. Like it or hate it, deal with it or don't deal with it, it is nature.

All animals eat living things to survive. Even the grass that the cows who make those tasty steaks is alive, so where do you draw the line?

If the animals butchered to feed him is a different story, what about the animals his cat or dog catches and eats? What about the helpless fly that spider in the corner of his ceiling just bit and paralyzed and then injected with enzymes to slowly dissolve it's insides while it's still alive? Or the crickets that cute lizard who lives under his porch eats whole? What about the worms he slowly drowns to catch a fish he will chop apart while it's still alive to fry for supper? Does he weep over these things?

If not, then he should. How is there one bit of difference between you feeding your snake a rat to help it survive any different than any of these other things ? If he feels you are being cruel, then by turn so is he. If he wants you to stop, then by all accounts, he should get rid of his dog or cat, spray the house for spiders, run the lizard off and never fish again. You cannot single out one person or action as cruel and deny the reality of the rest.
