UVB bulbs
I just got my bearded dragon and need to get a UVB bulb.
Do I have to buy the $25 ReptiSun 10.0 or will a $7 plant light from Home Depot work? They just don't specify the UV type on those bulbs.
Not that I mind paying for the right thing, I just know that reptile products are marketed to be the same thing just over-priced.

I don't believe those put out uvb rays and if they do it will be far too intense for the beardie.

I say go with the repti sun or a mercury vapor bulb of some kind, just make sure to stay away from compact uvb bulbs, they have been linked to causing eye problems in reptiles and the amount of uvb they put out is pitiful.

Re: UVB bulbs
The plant bulbs from Home Depot that I've seen usually don't give off enough UVB. The ReptiSun 10.0 18" is what I use and it spans my beardie's 40 gallon breeder tank easily. Also, the long bulbs emit enough rays so that your beardie doesn't really need to bask in the UV because they give off UV rays for 20 inches. Don't forget to change the bulb every five to six months. The bulbs will start to not give off rays anymore around then.

Re: UVB bulbs
Hi, The plant lights aren't any good for beardies you would need to go with the repti sun 10.0 or a mercury vapor bulb to get him/her the right UVB output. I personally use Mega Ray MVB for my breeders and repti sun 10.0 for hatchlings..
