Help me, I'm such a chicken

I need yall's help, I have owned a kingsnake for the past few months and plan to get a second snake in a few months. So I’ve been looking a different snakes and I have pretty much decided that I want a boid of some sort, either a Children’s Python (or similar), a hogg island boa, or of course a ball python. I really like the ball, but I’m scared of them, not because of size or anything but rather because I am a “chronic worrier” and I know that a normal “fast” that Bps tend to go through would most likely worry me, and I just don’t want to lose sleep because of perfectly normal behavior.

So what I’m asking for is just a little bit of encouragement I want a ball but I don’t want to be stressed out because it’s not hungry. Just kind of let me know how common it is and how you guys react especially when you were just starting out.

I guess that makes sense, but I don’t know it’s late so thanks!

It's stupid, I know. But I'm just concerned that it will not eat a few times and even though it's perfectly normal it will concern me. So I just needed to know how to combat the fear that something is wrong with it even though I know that it is perfectly normal.

Make sence? If not, sorry, like I said it's late...

I agree. My pied and pastel males have never refused a meal, but my female pin is a different story. If she eats a small rat every month then she is doing well.

Well we can't tell you to get one or not to get one that's up to you and you alone to make that choice. I like BP because they are wonderful to have as pets they are easy to handle and as a general rule they have good temperments . Also they don't get to big to handle . Some people don't like to handle the big burms or retics . But if the going off feed thing will bother you that much then it may not be your type. A Childrens or a boa may be better. They get a lot bigger than BP but they will eat anything lmao.

If you get the BP from a reputable breeder and keep it well cared for, I see no reason why he/she would fast. I've had mine for almost a year, and have never had any problems. If she won't take F/T, try live. It often works better for fasting snakes.

the person who bred the snake has nothing to do with weather or not it feeds as an adult seasonally. In another year your snake may start fasting as well. Ive noticed it starts in the 900ish gram range for females.

Every sexually mature bp I've owned has gone off food seasonally. male or female. Some males as small as 600 grams.

OP: if its a ball python, its going to stop eating at some point, and start eating again in the future. For reference, my first snake, a normal female ball, stops eating from SEPTEMBER until MARCH. She keeps her body weight and tone, shes just more interested in males than food. As long as youve got your husbandry nailed down, its no big deal. They'll eat when they are ready.

My only advise to you is to remember it is much harder on us than it is on them. Especially if you are a worry wart like me.

Repeating my mantra might help you.

"This is perfectly normal, it's not going to starve. This is perfectly normal, it's not going to starve. PLEASE EAT SOMETHING! This is perfectly normal, it's not going to starve."
