    Re: Getting a burm

In my personal opinion, a burm is not a beginner animal. It is good that you are getting a baby though, which will help you get accustomed to keeping these animals.

Females get larger than males, but expect that your animal could get 20+ ft. After the burm gets 7ft you will need a second person with knowledge of how to remove a wrapped snake in the room with you at all times during feedings, handling, administering medicine, and even cleaning. The golden rule: for every 7ft of animal, you have another knowledgeable person present.

Learn how to hook train your animal from the start, so that it knows the difference between hook=handling and no hook=feeding.
Get yourself a pair of long metal feeding tongs if you don't have some already.

Expect to get this animal a 6-8ft enclosure when it's an adult and be able to afford the expensive food costs of this animal (large rabbits are usually fed to adults).

Behavior wise, they are very placid animals but can be a bit nippy when young. Just handle frequently and hook train.

    Good luck!
